The hashtag beer has been a thing for nearly a decade now, and it’s still a thing people find irresistible. It’s gotten so that most of us can’t stand not having one around (and even if we could, we’re probably not going to hang out in a bar and drink it all day long). There are few things more universally appealing than that.
I feel like that’s why so many of us are so interested in this new Kickstarter campaign for Kona Brewing Company. At first glance, it’s not about beer in the traditional sense of the word. It’s about a lot of things. But in the end, it’s about the beer in the most literal sense. There’s a story behind the beer’s name, and it’s the kind of story that gets replayed throughout our lives.
Ok, first of all, to be honest, I am not a beer guy. I think its just another name for what the brewery wants to do – create a new kind of beer. But, to get back to the point, the campaign for Kona Brewing Company calls itself “a brand that celebrates the beer culture of Hawaii”. And that’s a lot of beer.
Kona Brewing Company is the brainchild of Jeff and Chris (who also owns the brewery), who also happen to be the founders of the Oktoberfest beer festival in Munich. Oktoberfest is one of the biggest beer festivals of the year in Europe, and Kona wants to be a part of it. Well, they have no choice really. Unlike the Oktoberfest, the Kona Brewing Company has to make its own beer. And its a pretty big beer.
Kona Brewing Company was founded in 2001 by Jeff and Chris Kealoha as a way to create a culture of beer culture for a small town in Hawaii. They are the only two people now living in the town, and they’ve been able to do that by bringing their love for brewing to a wider audience. Kona has also used the word “beer” for the word “culture” in its marketing.
So if you call a beer Kona, then you have probably heard of it. The company’s slogan is, “We Make Kona.” The most popular beer in the US is Kona IPA, which is brewed with a blend of malted barley, sweet white chocolate malt, and oats. The brewery’s recipes are very simple, and they make the best IPA in the world. Its not like the beer is bad, its just not the best.
Kona is great beer. But it isn’t the biggest. In fact, if you want to make a huge difference with your marketing efforts, then you might want to go with a beer that’s just as good, but not as big.
